Yard Craziness: Bulldozing the Lawn

When Claire was born, my mother came out to help me with the the whole new mother thing and, of course, work in my yard (she really loves to be in the yard). She said two things: 1- That Claire was the cutest thing she had ever seen and 2- that the lawn needed to be killed and ripped out. That was 2 years ago. (Can you believe Claire will be 2 at the end of the month!) We were hesitant at first because it was a lot of lawn and a lot of money, but after spending one summer walking in the horrible witch grass, we agreed. So, all last summer I sprayed the lawn with RoundUp killing it section by section. Everyone asked what we were up to and everyone commented on what a big job it would be. We just smiled and said, "yeah, we know." But did we really? Nope. Not until Zach came over with the CAT.

Tim asked me last week what I wanted for Mother's Day. My response: Rip out the lawn. So, that's what he gave me, with the help of his good buddy Zach.

From 3:00 to 8:30 yesterday evening, Zach and the rented CAT bulldozed, ripped out and piled high dirt, grass, weeds, sprinkler pipe and bugs.

We didn't realize how big of a job it was until we were about half way through. Both Tim and Zach couldn't believe how much dirt we ended up with. We are feeling a little overwhelmed but excited at the same time. We just need to haul off the dirt, kill whatever whitch grass comes up, add new fill dirt, rake and grade, put in a new sprinkling system and plant a nice lush grass seed. Is that it?

Wish us luck.

Wow Em, looks awesome. It always seems easier than it turns out to be. What I want to know is if Harrison came over to watch the skid-steer in action? Those pipes look like some of the stuff we pulled out of the Rexburg yard. Three different systems, YEARS of old pipes. Wish we could have been there to help you.

Oh my gosh... is all I have to say.

And, can't wait to see the progress!

one more thing... we put in our sprinkler system and just be warned it's totally doable, just lots of work... but I guess you already know that!
