Yeah, it was that fun! We went up to beautiful Rexburg, ID (it is pretty, no matter how much you hear me smack-talk it) and spent the weekend with my amazing sister Cat and her husband Dan. We went to the parade complete with tractors, cowgirls and cowboys, tiny dancers in oversized pink shirts with glittered hair, demolition cars (an Elder Johnson bound for Brazil was driving the demolition car, he even had a shirt and tie on), 3 high school bands, 2 junior high cheerleading squads, the ward primary, Miss Sugar City (along with 3 other pageant queens all of course adorned with fake jewels) and little dudes on mini motorcycles. It was great!
We ate yummy food, at home and out at restaurants. Claire is enjoying her olives, mandarin oranges and breadsticks at Craigo's, a must when we visit. Cat and Dan out did themselves with amazing tin foil dinners cooked out on the fire (see their beautiful fire pit here) and cookies, croissants and cakes galore. They even had food ready for Claire, grapes, mini pizzas, cheese, apples, cheerios and her own half gallon of whole milk. Thanks guys!
We went to the college gardens where Claire picked a rose, to the local grocery store where Claire got her first sticker (can you see Claire's new front teeth?) and to The Cocoa Bean Cupcake Cafe, a little bakery that sells cupcakes with mounds of frosting (my favorite) and hot chocolate. We didn't buy anything because we were planning on going back the next day, but we never made it. Next time. For sure.
Claire and Uncle Dan played ball all weekend. Soccer, football and basketball. Hey, where was the softball Uncle Dan?
We tested out Claire's new hiking babckpack and headed out to the beautiful Mesa Falls near Ashton. We couldn't have asked for a better day. Not too hot. Not too windy. Perfect. After seeing the main waterfall, we took a short mile hike down to the lower falls. It was a great little hike. Nice and flat the whole way.
On Saturday afternoon we wanted to help Cat and Dan out in their yard (they are always helping us when they come down, it was our turn to help them). We watered, saved the strawberry patch, mowed the lawn, composted the front beds and modeled sunglasses (well at least Claire did). It really looks great. Even though I sometimes call Rexburg "the barren waste land," it was a great trip. Relaxing, beautiful and fun. Thanks again C+D for the fun weekend.
PS- on the way home, Claire was getting a little fussy so I let her play with my sunglasses. All weekend she would put them on give a big cheesy smile and take them back off. I heard her talking and giggling to herself while playing with them so I turned around and saw this:
She was just sitting there with them on looking at herself in the mirror! It was hilarious!

Rexburg is beautiful; too bad we did not think it was all the beautiful when we lived there (wink, wink).

Mesa Falls is STUNNING. Seriously...you don't see lush, green like that everyday (especially when you live in the barren dessert!)
